ABOUT FREE ADMIRAL RICH | Casey, my dad, plays hundreds of songs by ear and he likes to play it loud. Imagine the sound of pipe organ throughout the house... yeah, i''d say I grew up in a household full of music.
First song I wrote was called "I''ll Be Watching You" about a red headed girl in grade ten. My first band was called "Handful of Earth" and I was it''s very unpolished drummer. The band was jamming my songs but I didn''t have the confidence to sing them back then. I''m a writer first and a singer second and wasn''t sure I could be the live show performer frontman type, it seems to be a very extreme kind of situation for a person to be in, but a band of brothers came together, had my back, and gave me the confidence to front a band.
We formed the original rock band PerSwayed in 2001. Writing and performing songs with my band of brothers, Andre on bass, Colin on drums, and friend Joel on guitar has been among the greatest experiences of my artistic career. I experienced real freedom and deep poetic expression. It has felt like surfing my voice on music. Pull out a piece of paper from a book of poetry and just sing... sing!
I shouldn''t be allowed to call myself "reclusive" really considering a decent amount of live performances. We took our show on the road calling it "The PerSwayed Show". We played many live shows ''01 - ''06 highlighted by performances at the BC Summer Games in Abbotsford, opening for Kazzer in Chilliwack with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in the house, plus a great "artsy" show at Simon Fraser University with special thanks to the tall brunette driving a big ol red truck who got us all there safely.
We jammed near weekly for 5 years... Wow! It must have been a good time... PerSwayed rehearsed in an old donkey barn out in the country. We put together great songs and played them at full blast, so loud, like we were singing them out to the star bright heavens. We were ambitious right from the start and in 02 recorded a 14 song album called "PS1 Version 1.0". However, our best songs remain unrecorded and wait for us to play them again.
2006 was a rough year. Joel no longer had his job at the farm so PerSwayed lost the Donkey Barn space and now we don''t jam as much anymore. Some other things as well caused F_A_R to feel a sense of deep loss and sent him back packing for another trip into the world of poets. What followed was a lot of time spent considering and writing and, as it turns out, also into studio to record.
Here now and I''m proud to release my first solo album, a studio album featuring 14 original songs called, "The Secret Recordings of Free Admiral Rich", by Free Admiral Rich. Perhaps one day soon, they won''t be a secret anymore. Thankyou for your interest.
