I wrote this song about spending the first Christmas without Dad, as he passed away 4 months earlier.
It was so strange... I felt like I was following my Mom around the house like a puppy... I was on her heels all the time. It was like I was scared to let her get too far away from me... I was already at such a loss.
I really did sign his name in a Christmas card... for some strange reason, as I was looking for a card for Mom, my hand reached for one and when I looked inside it, it completely pertained to Mom and Dad''s relationship... who knows. Maybe Dad was using my body to do his work!!! Crazier stuff has happened I''m sure! :) So, I had his signature down to an artform, so,I signed his name on it and gave it to her. It just felt right. My Mom never even questioned it... I guess it seemed right to her too.
I sat at the Christmas table that year and many years later, pretending that he was just out of my eye sight, about to enter the room... as though he was still alive. That''s what I call my ''crazy game'' in the song.
You know those memories that take you RIGHT BACK to that specific time? That''s what I mean by supersliders (those red slippery things that tied to your feet!! LOVED THEM!) and an easy bake oven...I think I was in grade 3 and I remember that Christmas like it was yesterday. We all have a certain Christmas that stands out more than others... remember?? :)
So, if anything, I hope this song allows you to take a moment and remember those, whether it be family or friends, who you spent the holidays with in the past. They''re with you still, they just watch over you now instead... cherish them and take a moment to honour them at this time of the year.
