At the band''s core are vocalist/Chapman Stick player Alex Nahas and drummer/backing vocalist Mark Bernfield. While Nahas provides the lyric and melodic foundations for the songs, the process of developing and shaping their structure, texture, and mood is a truly collaborative one, a result of countless hours of playing together and exchanging ideas.
Laughingstock''s sound is complemented by innovative collaborations with cellist Zoe Keating, violinist Milton Cross, keyboardist Eric Glick Rieman, and producer Lee Townsend (best known for his work with Bill Frisell, Kelly Joe Phelps, John Scofield, Charlie Hunter, and Noe Venable), who have all contributed greatly to the band''s sonic scope.
