Amalgama was formed in Albany, New York in late 2005. Surviving member changes, long drives, broken gear and the occasional fight or two, the band has been working their way through the region’s clubs in order to break into the national scene. The catalyst which sparked the band''s current incarnation was a chance meeting in a college cafeteria of two students sharing a common love for metal. A Metallica tattoo and an Iron Maiden t-shirt triggered a commonality between lead guitarist/vocalist John Salka and rhythm guitarist Dylan Lindstadt, which led to the birth of Amalgama. The band''s early days were marked with a rotating door of musicians. Whoever would commit to learning a few songs only days before a gig would be onstage that night. Their first gig was at the infamous and now defunct Hudson Duster in Troy NY, a venue notorious for a fatal beating that occurred just outside its doors a year before. Amalgama eventually gave up on a permanent bass player and soldiered on without one, simply asking that the bass be turned up on their guitar cabs to fill the void. After their current drummer Greg Laruccia joined the band, they began opening up for national and international level acts such as If Hope Dies (Ironclad/Metal Blade), The Spyderz (Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard), Epica, and Visions of Atlantis. Somewhere along the way an EP was recorded, entitled Stainless, with former drummer Steve Goldman (Armageddon Monks) behind the board. ‘Nasty’ Nate Schied joined the band on bass in mid-2007, filling in the band’s sound. Amalgama began playing gigs more frequently, traveling up and down New York State- as far northwest as Rome and as far southeast as Brooklyn. More recently the band has finally finished their first full length album entitled When The Dust Settles, helmed once again by Steve Goldman behind the control board. The new album dropped in late July 2008 and the band hit the road on tour around the northeast in support.
