Known in Chicago as an actor/playwright as well as a high wattage vocalist and master songwriter, Ravin’ Dave Lykins has partnered up with legendary flat picker Pat Flynn of the New Grass Revival as well as Chris Leuzinger of Garth Brooks Band and Dixie Chicks drummer John Gardner. Dow Tomlin on bass and Jeff Taylor on keys round out the ensemble to add some serious power and a silky groove to Dave’s razor sharp lyrics. This is an electric album that never loses its acoustic sensibilities.
Blurry White Guy is an album that, even though it tackles politics and injustice from an angular point of view, ain’t preachy. You can be pissed off and still have a good time. Lykins may pull the rug out from underneath you but he’ll always help you back up and dust you off.
This is bound to be one of those CD’s that will never leave your car stereo. That is, until your girlfriend steals it after she breaks up with you.
