Details:
Wally Lawder is a Kansan-born New Englander who now lives in Silver City, New Mexico ("I had lived on the east coast for many years, and was really ready for change and the wide open spaces of the west").
After playing many types of music in a number of different bands and groups over many years, a light bulb went off and he began writing his own songs.
"I had been writing poetry for many years but I hadn''t really connected to songwriting.
Then there was the explosion in the whole singer-songwriter movement in the 90''s and that really inspired me.
I realized I had the tools, and that I just had to fuse them together.
Since then it''s been an easy process and I''ve been quite prolific in my songwriting." Wally has a loyal following in the northeast and performs regularly.
"It made sense to finally put out a CD--a lot of people have been asking for it." His lyrics cover a wide range, from the romantic ("Mercies of the Night") to meditative ("The One Inside") to environmental/social ("The Indian in the Woods", "Willow Street Belle") to rambunctious ("Things in Between").
While the acoustic "folk" sound is there, his music has a very creative range, full of surprises, from the jazzy "Sundress" to the dreamy "Leaving Town" to the orchestral "Something''s Happening." On the album "Leaving Town" he plays with a full, diverse group of musicians.
Live, he often plays solo, but sometimes with a full band.
