Ronnie Nichols is a grey-haired grandpa who is proud to be from Harrison, Tennessee. He has been happily married to his wife, Dene, for over 37 years. He is now retired and they have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. He is involved with a local monthly live music show near Chattanooga called the Snow Hill Bluegrass Jamboree. His band is called The Harrison Grass and they usually play on this show. He was grown and married before he ever tried to learn to play guitar or banjo. He always had a love for music and started playing guitar around 1973. He also took up the banjo and upright bass as the years went by.
After high school he pursued the auto body repair trade and later worked as an auto damage appraiser. In 1999 he had to retire to take care of his sick parents. He always enjoyed working with wood. He started building and experimenting with acoustic instruments in the 1970’s. He has built and repaired a lot of acoustic stringed instruments over the years. He has designed some instruments such as the “3 Holer” which is featured on a lot of these recordings. It is a wooden topped banjo which has a unique sound.
He wrote his first song in 1999 and has written several since then. His songs usually tell a story. He uses simple melodies and basic stringed instruments including his 3 Holer Banjo for accompaniment. All the songs on this album are written, played, and sung by him. His songs often represent true-life experiences. He says he realizes that he’s no Vince Gill but he hopes these songs will make someone smile or connect with them in some way.
The songs on this album like “Raised in a Junk Yard” and “1803 Vero Beach” are true stories that describe some of his years growing up around Chattanooga, TN. The light hearted ones like “How Come I Have To Smell Dog Doo”, “Banjer Picker In Your Ear”, and “Old Jim” show his offbeat sense of humor. Songs like “I Wish I Could Take My Daddy Fishing”, “I Shave Two Faces", and “The Home Place” look back on the times he and his wife spent caring for his parents who both suffered from Dementia. “The Old School Days” seems to hit home with a lot of the older folks. His music comes from the heart and we hope you will enjoy it.
