Nik ventures into more musical territories on this overlooked second release. It gets “rootsier” with strong hard rock tracks like “The Man With The Devil’s Voice”, “folkier” with the strong story song, “Neon Gambler” and his sense of humor and southern California inspired muse will take you through the instrumental “Bathtub Surf Dream”. Of course Everett wouldn’t let any album end without serving up his own brand of strong melody based pop songs and love ballads. “Love=Blue” soars with pain and heartbreak and is stunning in it’s execution and emotional depth. The same sentiments can be applied to “Don’t Let Time (Take It All Away)” and the powerful closer, “The Healing Has Begun”.
Everett can switch gears with the best of them and this fine collection proves it even more.
