Sensationally Unique is the words that come to mind when you hear the name Mary “Neacie” Hampton, a native of Chicago she is the ninth of ten children born to Pastor Frances E. and William Thomas, Sr.
Neacie begin singing at the tender age of 7, her first solo being the famous hymn, “Precious Lord”. She grew up singing with the family group, “The Thomas Singers” later her sisters formed a group called, “The Miraclettes” which Neacie joined at age 13. Along with the Miraclettes Neacie shared the stage with many gospel greats such as, The Thompson Community Singers, Jesse Dixon, Inez Andrews, Angela Spivey and many others.
For many years Neacie has traveled from state to state singing in various concerts, stage productions, churches, institutions, and various gospel television programs. She was recently debuted on the renowned television gospel show, “Singsation”.
In 1993, Neacie trained and became a radio DJ at the WWHN Gospel Radio in Chicago, at which time she decided to attend college and further her education and knowledge of broadcasting by enrolling at Kennedy King College in 1995. Three months after beginning the undergraduate program, God saw fit to call her mother, Pastor Frances E Thomas, home. That was the most devastating and heart-breaking experience in Neacie’s life.
The death of her mother caused a cascade of trials and suffering that Neacie had to face, and resulting in a divorce from the man that became her husband in an arranged marriage that lasted 22 years. In the wake of death and divorce, Neacie left her family home and church to start anew as a single parent with four children.
With constant companions of fear and faith, Neacie stepped out to trust the God she had been reared to believe in and serve all of her life. Starting with two part-time radio personality jobs and public assistance, Neacie persevered believing there were better days ahead. After about four months, Neacie was blessed with a job at the Total Living Network (TLN) as the Production Assistant for the Emmy-nominated TV Gospel music program, “Testify!” Through TLN Neacie was asked to become a spiritual counselor at the Haymarket Center, offering drug rehabilitation for pregnant women in Chicago. It was during these transitions in her life Neacie wrote the inspiring book, The Child Bride, No One Knew My Pain.
During that time she had also become a member of the Monument of Faith Evangelistic Church under the leadership of Apostle Richard D. Henton. In this ministry Mary served as one of the lead soloist and directors of the Voices of Monument and member of the Praise Team.
In 2005 Neacie and her husband, Pastor Donald A. Hampton co-produced an independent production featuring their first hit stage play “Son of A Preacher”. Neacie now returns to her first love, singing, and with great joy she humbly presents to you, a must have CD release, “Everybody Song”.
