THE LES BAXTER FACTOR is a Tucson, Az. based contemporary jazz group who has performed 6 nights a week since June of 2002. They have captivated their audiences with beautiful, jazzy renditions of songs from many different genres. Their flair for spontaneous ad-libs and knack for diverse song selection has kept their fans coming back, and has captured the hearts of Arizona''s jazz community.
Their debut CD entitled THE CHRONESTRIAN has attracted world-wide attention on https://www.tradebit.com, with the title song reaching #6 in the jazz fusion genre in June of 2003. The CD ranked in the top 100 overall for over 6 months, which has drawn the attention of music promoters and record executives. This band is definitely on the rise!
The band is manned by: Les Baxter (leader/bassist/composer), AmoChip Dabney (saxes/keys), R.C. Ratliff (guitar), Darryl Roles (drums), and Kevin Robinson (percussion). Their unique bond and spirit is immediately evident as each performance takes off. It''s an infectious joy and love for the music that has to be experienced to truly understand.
Les Baxter, an ex USAF russian/german linguist, has performed with many groups world-wide, including the Air Force Showcase band in Europe. He has performed for former president Ronald Reagan, he''s opened for The Beach Boys, he''s opened for Ronnie Laws, he''s opened for Tower of Power, and has even jammed with famous guitarist Larry Coryell. His experiences have helped him understand how to be an effective leader, and he gets the very best from his band members!
AmoChip Dabney is a 3 time grammy nominee for his production and compostions with The R. Carlos Nakai Quartet (world-renouned Native-American floutist), and has performed with Sun Ra, The Nigerian All-stars, and even The Five Stairsteps! His melodic and tasteful approach to each measure of every song is sheer delight to the listener, and his persona is charming and captivating.....a true professional!
R.C. Ratliff adds 12 years of experience as guitarist with Junior Walker and the All-stars, with a soulful, bluesy style and simply pure passion for music. He is the perfect compliment to Les and AmoChip!
Darryl Roles, retired veteran of the prestigious U.S. ARMY touring band, is the newest member, and has made more than a name for himself in the Tucson music scene, with his innate feel for all types of music styles, and his cool yet hot touch to each song. He helps Les create the "pocket", which is so important to the band''s style!
Kevin Robinson is a well travelled percussionist because when people want the best, they know to call Kevin. Somehow he knows just what''s right for any song he plays, a rare talent indeed!
