Details:
Formed in late 2005, HUTSON is made up of Ben Reese on drums, Bryan Larson on guitar and vocals, and Tony Collver on bass and vocals. Based out of Portland, Oregon, the band spent nearly a year practicing and solidifying their alt-country/rock sound before recording a self-titled EP in late 2006.
After playing continuously through the rain-drenched Portland bar/pub scene, HUTSON began recording their first LP in late 2007. What followed was a turbulent year of DIY recording and continued touring around Portland, fueled by numerous rumours about their self-proclaimed "rock opera" that was being finished in the studio.
Finally, after a year''s worth of hard work, HUTSON has released their first full-length album, "Death of a Young Professional".
"Death of a Young Professional" showcases the band''s penchant for story-telling by being a loose concept album following the life and death of an unnamed protagonist. Being a cycle of eleven songs, the album stylistically bridges the gap between Wilco and the Pixies, and touches on everything else in between.
Lead singer and guitarist Bryan Larson has described the album as, "a great 70''s album recorded by an early-90''s band. Which is basically what we were going for."
That may be, but "Death of a Young Professional" is a truly relevant record for this decade. Pulling equally from country music and rock, HUTSON has created an astonishing debut that will not dissappoint.
