Details:
Though the Stonethrowers were founded as an original music band, they perform from a large and growing number of hard driving bluegrass and country standards. The instrumentalists aim to keep tradition alive with exceptional improvisational skill and interpretation. Three-part harmonies are a feature throughout most of the repertoire.

Four members often take the lead vocals adding an engaging interplay of personality and singing style. Our instrumentation is guitar/ voice, banjo/voice, mandolin/voice, pedal steel guitar, and upright bass/ voice.

You can expect to hear your favorite traditional songs as well as songs by Hank Williams, Tom Waits, Gillian Welch, The Beatles, Steve Earl, Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Ricky Skaggs and more.

The Stonethrowers have played these fine festivals in the past year:

POCONO BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL in PA, WILMINGTON WINTERGRASS FESTIVAL in DE, NEPA BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL in PA, OATS BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL in PA, MUSIKFEST in Bethlehem PA, PICKIN IN THE PANHANDLE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL in WV.

We have opened for Moe, Chuck Prophet, and King Wilkie and played shows with Jesse Harris and Madi Diaz.

The band’s on-stage chemistry delights audiences with its playful banter and quick-witted commentary. Marc Silver and the Stonethrowers show tremendous joy in playing music together. It is a feeling easily transferred to their audience, venue after venue.

Marc Silver was born in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1994 he made his way around the country from California, Colorado, Tennessee, and Vermont visiting bluegrass festivals and a summer tour with Phish. After a short year and a half at Ohio University, Marc took an interest in studying Jazz music, which led him to Philadelphia to study at The University of The Arts. After graduating and recording his first instrumental CD, The Marc Silver Project, he had a natural return to folk music and songwriting. In 2007, Marc released his first record as a songwriter called Stonethrowers. By this time, Marc had assembled a band that brought a bluegrass character and new life to his songwriting. With an ever-growing body of work, the band hit the pavement and began to build a network with other songwriters, new friends, and fans. In 2008, the band went back into the studio to recorded Past Is Prelude, Marc’s newest body of work. Now approaching the end of the second year together, Marc Silver & The Stonethrowers are playing private parties, weddings, and festivals around the east coast. By the summer of 2009, they hope to be traveling long weekends from Vermont down to North Carolina.
