Details:
Simon''s experiments with composition began at age 7 when a bright orange guitar with only a top and bottom string, and cellotape holding the back together, was brought into the house by his father.

The other strings eventually took their place on the guitar, and he was up and running trying to get the hang of an F chord and wondering why Em sounded so much better than all the other chords.

After playing with various school bands there followed a five or six year fascination with solo acoustic guitar and singer-songwriters generally. The interest in the former has resurfaced in recent years.

Simon started trying to get to grips with jazz while living in Birmingham UK, with much patient and unpaid help from local jazz star Steve Ajao.

His early experiments at composition within this idiom where aided and abetted by fellow Birmingham guitarist T J Rehmi, who now has a succesful career in the UK Asian Underground scene, but was at that time interested in instrumental composition as a starting point for improvisation.

A move to Manchester UK in 1993 lead to far greater performance opportunities, and the chance to form The Well, a quartet performing a repertoire of Simon''s tunes. This was followed by the formation of Touch, performing a more groove based selection of his work, as well as numerous trios.

He has recorded with Jimpster and Fingathing, then Manchester-based recording artists, as well as performing with a broad range of musicians, ranging from national jazz stars such as Jim Mullen to world music icons such as Brice Wassy.

2007 saw the release of his debut solo album in the capable and pleasant company of Huw Jacob on bass, and Che Beresford on drums - buy it!
