ROCK: Folk Rock, BLUES: Electric Blues

Details:
If the music of Lindy Dickerson had to be described in one single word, it would have to be: whole. Lindy plays full rock and roll, music that supports itself, that goes back deep. Lindy is the kind of musician that sounds familiar and yet would never be called average or traditional. Especially not with those sharp guitar solos that rival the greats. The road has been a long one, however.
Born in Flint Michigan but raised in Mount Pleasant, Lindy bought his first guitar with money his mom gave him instead buying him a Christmas present. It came out of a Sears catalog and he played his first show in elementary school: a talent show where he lost to a baton twirler. "I just can''t believe they picked the baton twirler," Lindy laughs ruefully while telling the story. Like his brothers, Lindy surrounded himself with music from an early age. His older brother Travis used to lock his younger siblings in the bedroom and jam on the piano till late into the night. His younger brother, Brandy also played the guitar and the three lived together in their own musical worlds.
After high school, the brothers went off one by one to California like so many others, to pursue their dreams. To make a living, they built recording studios around the Los Angeles area and soon became experts at the craft. When they had enough money, they got the materials and rented a space to build their own. It was here that the brothers formed the band, Mr. Wilson with drummer Mike Brooks. Mr. Wilson''s fast-paced rock filled small local clubs across L.A. The music was driven by Lindy''s intricate and heavy guitar solos, Travis''s provocative piano, and Brandy''s quick bass and sharp lyrics. In [certain date], punk band X drummer, D.J. Bonebreak joined on and the music was more powerful than ever. Abstract artist Burton Dickerson, Lindy''s father, created awe-inspiring animated videos that pulsated with the beat of the music, as well as creating their signature image: a stylized silhouette of a walking man with a hat and cane.
Disaster struck, however, when Brandy Dickerson died suddenly in the summer of 1994. After his death, music for public consumption took a standstill. With Travis and D.J., Lindy spent the mid-ninties creating the pounding album which they called, "Window". Filled with everything from marimbas to haunting piano melodies and antiwar commentary, "Window" was enjoyed by mostly friends and family. Still, it did not satisfy Lindy''s desire to create quality music. For years following the completion of "Window," Lindy slowly and emotionally worked out his current album, "Carry Me Away," a lilting and powerful work which highlights his own musical talent. The songs on "Carry Me Away" pound fiercely away while at the same time exuding the intricate detail of a masterful musician. Joined again by his brother Travis who produced the album, he was also accompanied by "Baby''s" drummer Tony Brock, and Tim Pailing on the twanging dobro. Lindy''s songs represent his maturation in the world of popular music. His highly intelligent lyrics float uniquely atop the strong melodies. On songs such as "Think Twice," we hear Lindy''s hard rocking power and raging guitar, while at the same time he showcases his delicate side. His talented lead on such sweet acoustic driven songs such as on "Carry Me Away" amazes listeners by his ability to appear to be playing two parts at once. With eyes closed and mouth taut, Lindy''s fingers seem only to brush lightly upon the strings and a whole world of melody erupts from the guitar. Arguably the most impressive song on the album, "It Must Be Me," Lindy announces his presence to the world. A true ensemble effort, Tony Brock magnificently manipulates the drums while Travis adds the tear-dropping piano background. Lindy''s guitar solo swirls and vibrates on the top while Tim''s dobro floats up from the bottom creating the immensely full song that fills up a room. On this new album, "Carry Me Away," Lindy Dickerson is making a statement. On each song we can clearly see his unique musical perspective. And we can clearly see that Lindy is a musical force to be reckoned with.
