In 2005, two young promising artists from two different worlds realized that they had more in common than they thought. The collaboration of the two artist-producers; Andrew Adegbamigbe – a.k.a 5th Horseman – and James Johnson – a.k.a Furious Flo – spawned one of Indiana’s most prolific music groups, Beatbox Connections. Although it was originally founded as a music group, as time passed Beatbox Connections gained the reputation of a production company, its founders without question accepted the title. Along with being the founders of Beatbox Connections, both the 5th Horseman and Furious Flo are the Primary artists and producers under Beatbox Connections. Releasing their debut Album - “Middle of the Map” - in October of 2007, Beatbox Connections has managed to create an international buzz with their music. Airing first on the radio in Australia, the duo unleashed five of their hottest singles from the debut album, and ever since word of the Midwest Prodigies has gradually spread everywhere in between the U.S. and Australia.
Born in Ft. Hood Texas, James grew up listening to southern rap artists before moving to Indiana at age twelve. The same year, then nine year old Andrew bread on east coast rap, made his way from Brooklyn to Indiana. At the time neither of the two was aware of the other, but both lived lives that seemed almost identical. With a passion for music of various genres, both James and Andrew developed a skill that earned them a reputation as beat-makers at their respective middle and high schools. Both spent years defending their reputation as best beat-maker at their high schools. Every lunch period as rappers battled, they would make beats to keep the battle going. The decision to compose the lyrics immediately followed. Gradually they master their craft with the influence of the industry’s most talented producers. In 2001 both gained knowledge of each others existence through a mutual friend. Ironically they both despised each other due to speculations as to who the better producer was. The dispute ended within months after their paths crossed at the residence of the friend they had in common. After working together on a beat the two began to trade ideas and material.
A couple of years passed and both had graduated high school. With the exception of music, neither of the two was certain as to what they would do with the rest of their lives. The decision to officially establish themselves as a music group came about as a result of their ability to create beats of different styles, and the then present argument of; whether or not Hip hop was dead. Just like that Beatbox Connections was formed, and just like any other rising star their road to success started at the bottom. Enduring many hardships and tragedies Beatbox connections took everything that was thrown their way in stride. They quickly learned the ups and downs of the industry and that the key to actually making it to the top was learning. After numerous unsuccessful tries to get a radio station manager that would take the time to listen to their music in the U.S., they took their search to the internet and found a radio station host and a Dj in Australia who were both eager to here underground hip hop from the states. Upon hearing the first few tracks, the Dj was more than pleased to be the person to air the debut tracks of Beatbox Connections in 2006.
Beatbox connections is a young music group with a great deal of talent. Coming from the two different parts of the world, both the Fifth horseman and Furious Flo have made a connection that will bring the next generation of music fans together, and what better place to start than “The Middle of The Map.”
