As you listen to James George Serrett''s latest release,
James George Serrett: Living In Slow Motion, you gradually begin to realize the only thing you can truly be sure of is that in Serrett''s world, nothing is ever as it seems. Self-deception subtly pervades the title tune Living In Slow Motion and Tomorrow''s Another Day. Irresistibly catchy and fun, The Secret Of Life explores the consequences of life lessons learned the hard way, and alas, too late. Crazy Bitch
(despite its undeniably offensive and initially irreverent tone) is ultimately a poignant tale of loss and longing. And the totally unexpected ending of Where''ve You Been All My Life? is probably the biggest most soulwrenching surprise of all. Even on those rare occasions when things apparently are as they seem(as in Fly Away and Any More/Anymore), they still don''t end well. Thank goodness for Crazy(a whimsical uptempo ode to the pleasurable insanity of love), Plan B (a rocker about taking responsibility for your past and trying to change), and lastly, In Your Arms (a genuinely happy song about something as simple and effortless as a hug).
