Richard MacLemale is an old school songwriter in the tradition of Dan Fogelberg or James Taylor, but with a modern edge. Some of his songs feature acoustic guitar, some feature hard rock riffs, and some are ballads. Richard''s emphasis is on songwriting first.
Richard studied piano and music theory at the Eastman School of Music, and rock guitar in various garages and basements. Musical influences include the Alan Parsons Project, REM, Dan Fogelberg, Michael Franks, Elton John, Queen, Genesis, KISS, and many others.
Richard''s guitar playing is reminiscent of Ian Bairson, guitarist for the Alan Parsons Project, and Brian May of Queen - melody always comes first, especially in guitar solos. His piano playing is heavily influenced by Elton John, and Tony Banks of Genesis. His vocal approach is open and honest, influenced by Michael Stipe of REM and Tim Finn of Split Enz fame.
