MP3 The Macombees EP - POP: Quirky

The Macombees sound like PJ Harvey singing pop songs with Weezer, it''s what Dido would do next if she thought of it first.

7 MP3 Songs
POP: Quirky, POP: British Pop

Details:
Bitter-sweet alternative rock with a twist of ska, pop, quirky guitars and pounding bass and drums, The Macombees music is intelligent, emotional and above all passionate.

The band formed early in 2003 after each member had taken a long break from the music scene to do other things. If there is such as thing as destiny then The Macombees were destined to meet up and play music together. Driven by the immensely talented songwriter and singer Sarah Pritchard and sound-aficionado and guitarist Simon Danaher, together with ex SkipFuff rhythm section Howy Pritchard and Dean Proudman The Macombees create something fresh from a standard Keys/Guitar/Bass/Drums setup producing music that is accessible, humorous and emotionally satisfying.

Great tunes and hooks are one thing but there has to be a conceptual clarity that links the music, lyrics and the emotion of a song and this is the great strength of the band. The Macombees don''t sound like pretenders because there''s no pretense, just honest passion for music, sound and and the emotion of a great performance.

Fan and Press quotes:
"Crushingly honest lyrics" Time Out

"It didn''t matter that the sound was awful in the venue, The Macombees we''re banging out song after hook-laden song, and the ragged audience, me included, couldn''t get enough" Stroud News and Journal

"I really like their whimsical, angular rock music. I listen to a lot of music
every day and I do like the looseness and the sense of abandon that comes
across in The Macombees'' music." Derek Lea, Canada

"There''s nothing more satisfying than watching a band that know they''re playing great songs" The London Evening Standard

"The Macombees'' CD is in constant rotation on my stereo with Dido and Frank Black" Gail, Swindon

"A varied mix of Radiohead, Madness, No Doubt and many others - sounds weird - but they are really amazing - thanks for a great gig." Ruth Morgan, Newport

"They have that raw, honest vibe about them. You know they''re really into what they''re doing" Jean, Portsmouth.

"The Macombees combine pop sensibilities with an emotive, darker edge. Uplifting and sorrowful all at once." The Big Issue

"The Macombees first lyric was "I want to come all over your face". You know you''re in for a decent gig after that" Chester & Distrct Standard
