Marc Peter is a native of Portland, OR, and has been playing the local coffee house scene since 2002. He is now expanding into other types of venues. Though just getting his feet wet as a solo artist in the Portland-metro area, this singer/songwriter is not new to performing. With much experience, having fronted three previous bands (including ebbtide), Peter is comfortable and confident on and off of the stage. About his musical style Peter says, "[My music] is a blend of Urban Pop and Folk Rock. I''m influenced by a variety of artists: Coldplay, Switchfoot, Emmylou Harris, Jars of Clay, and Lisa Loeb (to name a few)."
After receiving a good response to his debut solo album, "My King, I Bow Down" which was released July 2002, Peter decided to record some of his newer songs. In September 2003, Peter released an EP entitled "Coming Alive" exploring the subjects of love and life and faith and struggle. "If you know what it is like to take a deep breath after feeling homesick and claustrophobic for a long time, you''ll probably find yourself relating to some aspect of this album," he says. While many people are familiar with Peter as a singer in his local church, these 5 songs are a taste of something just as deep inside of him as his faith. "I have wrestle with ''feelings vs. faith'' at times, and I''m never quite sure which one is going to win the battle on a particular day... but I know I''m growing as a person," says Peter, whose idealistic lyrics can be a bit melodramatic at times, but always extremely honest about who he is and the struggles he faces.
The true heart of Peter''s music is easily grasped when he plays more intimate venues with just his voice and acoustic guitar (which he prefers). His performance is captivating and electrifying at occassional larger shows with a band around him. Those who hear Marc Peter perform will be sure to have an enjoyable experience whether he is performing solo, or with a band, as awareness of his presence in the music scene spreads throughout the Greater Portland area. Peter''s strong vocal presence and melodic tunes are his niche. Peter''s ability to capture and communicate his wrestless heart is sure to resonate with his audiences far and wide. In addition to being a musician, Peter considers himself a loyal friend and a coffee-addict. Peter recently married his lovely wife, Elise. Peter also worked part time at Starbucks Coffee in the Portland-metro area. He now works as a retail sales rep for a video distribution company.
