Euphonious Corpus... What a strange title for an album... That kind of reaction is why I named this what I did. It''s weird. And that''s why I liked it!

Actually the idea for this title came about 7 or 8 years ago. When I started this project it seemed fitting. "A body of writings of a specific kind or subject (corpus) that are pleasing or agreeable to the ear (euphonious)" just seemed to say it all.

Most of this music was written as recording of the album progressed but I couldn''t resist the temptation to pull a couple from the archives. "Stargazer" was written back in 1972 and was a nice up tempo mandolin tune, with a rock treatment, about what else but groupies. Did I say I have a sense of humor? If it''s not obvious, "Wash Rag" should eliminate any doubt. Good ''ole Mark (Rev.)DeFeis and I wrote that one about 1982. The dog barking was my idea.... "Simple" was written during the production of "Pardon The Flaws...And Pass The Ketchup" which was never officially released. I had not planned on doing anything with the song until my daughters, Melissa and Mallory, told me I should record it. I''m glad I did and they really liked how it turned out. Go figure. A great lesson in perceptions....

With this album, after having obtained a decent PC and recording software, I embarked on the exploration of the digital universe. While it may not be a state-of-the-art recording, it was definitely a learning experience of the cosmic kind.

OK, this is for the techies...

Since all this was done in my former apartment and my neighbors valued their peace and quiet, all the instrument parts were recorded direct to the hard drive via my ART effects processor. The vocals were recorded with a AKG D330BT mic and the instruments used were as follows:
Fender DG10 12-string acoustic guitar, Yamaha F310 6-string acoustic guitar, Gibson (''69) customized Les Paul Standard electric guitar, Epiphone (SG) G-300 electric guitar, Harmony H65 electric bass, Yamaha DX27S keyboard synthesizer, Casio CTK-451 keyboard synthesizer, Yamaha DD-7 electronic drums, my Mom''s mandolin by Mid Missouri Mandolin Co., and Dean Markley acoustic pickups....

For those of you listening to this album....THANK YOU! There are 3 basic reasons I do music:

First, the creative process allows me to work through a variety of emotions, providing a release that is unequaled. Music heals, inspires, and excites.

Secondly, it is you that I do this for. If even a small part of a song touches you in some way, then my responsibility as an artist has been fulfilled. After all, when everything else is stripped away, it''s just about feeling something - anything. I suppose that even if you hated it, that would be a feeling. Right?

Third, maybe I can make some money with this and quit my day job for good! It doesn''t hurt to dream! (how''s that for a hint...)

So thanks again for giving it a spin and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed recording it.

Live Long And Prosper......Peace!
Mark
