In 2000 Market Square put out their first record called "Welcome to Market Square". It is available to listen to and/or purchase on their web site at https://www.tradebit.com. All songs on "Welcome to Market Square" and "Newlin House" were written by Peter Bates Goodman.
Peter has been making music since he was 9 years old. In the 4th grade he was selected by his friends to be in their band not because of musical ability but because they thought his curly hair would be an asset for the band. He was told that he was the bass guitar player (like Paul) so he got his mom to buy him one and played bass in the band until 7th grade. After he got his first guitar, he rarely picked up the bass again. He wrote his first song before he entered high school. About that same time he began playing the piano and started taking lessons. He took piano lessons throughout high school. He never did take a guitar lesson.
In high school he was very involved in the concert choir and the twelve member ensemble in which he played guitar and sang. In 1974 the ensemble sang and recorded one of his original compositions. After high school, he continued writing, recording, and performing music with various friends in the Los Angeles area.
Peter moved from Southern California to Northern California in 1990 and met Jesse Nickell. Jesse is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. He has been a great musical encourager/mover/shaker. You can hear him doing several flute, penny whistle, accordion, and keyboard solos on the Newlin House record. A year later they hooked up with Blake Cooper. Blake plays both bass and guitar and is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. Several of Blake''s great guitar solos can be heard on Newlin House. Soon after that they got Anthony Mendoza to join the band as drummer. Anthony is a very sensitive drummer and also an excellent alto saxophone player. You will hear him playing his sax on several of the Newlin House cuts.
All the band members in Market Square are friends and live in the Monterey Bay/Santa Cruz California area. Market Square loves making music together and hopes that you enjoy it also.
