Matt Davis and his music is a mixture of diverse and, seemingly, conflicting elements. Though, after close examination, the pieces begin to blend and meld together into a complicated and yet simple message that communicates his reality.
Growing up in the rural setting of Tomball, Texas, Matt was exposed to a limited musical listening environment of "Oldies" and "Classic Rock". The diversity of one''s songs can only be as wide as the music that is listened to, and Matt accredits artists such as The Beatles, Waylon Jennings, Todd Snider, Pete Yorn, Jack Ingram, Bleu Edmondson and the Stone Coyotes as some of his influences.
In the beginning of 2000, Matt first picked up the guitar began to teach himself to play. That summer when he moved to Kansas City, new doors and new opportunities opened allowing him to explore his own world. A couple months later he wrote his first song. When he came back to Texas he realized that writing songs and music was a part of who he was and how it had become an outlet of expression. "Once I started writing a lot, I realized that it became the way I express my feelings and emotions." states Matt, " If I ever had to stop, I think I would probably explode in some way or another."
Matt formed his first band, Broken Strings, in 2002 and grew in his performance and development as a songwriter through the experiences that the band shared as they were given more and more opportunities to play with other artists such as Jack Ingram, Roger Creager, Bleu Edmondson, Django Walker, Dub Miller, Randy Rogers, Honeybrowne Wade Bowen, Cody Canada, The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, and Stoney LaRue at some of the top Texas Music venues across the state, including The Firehouse Saloon, Sons of Hermann Hall, Pappa''s on the Lake, Sidecar Pub, and The Greek Bros.
Matt continues to grow in his career and his first album "Magellan Street Sessions" is a clear example of the talent and commitment that he has to songwriting and performance. He is currently touring across Texas opening for Jack Ingram, HoneyBrowne , Randy Rogers, Bleu Edmondson, Kyle Hutton and Django Walker as well as playing his own shows at the Firehouse Saloon, Hill''s Café, Adair''s, and other Texas venues.

Last Saturday I saw Owen Temple play. I''ll sing the praises of Temple thuroughly at another point, but I wanted to more immediately comment on the opening act: Matt Davis.
The boy has got talent and I recommend that those of you in Texas Country circles keep an eye on this guy. I first saw him play as a substitute for the last Mike McClure & Great Divide Houston show, and I couldn''t get in to him because I was so disappointed not to see TGD.
Kevin saw Davis play with his former band (I can''t remember the name offhand) and had good things to say about it (for one thing, he played a Skynyrd song that was not Freebird. Always a plus).
He has the novelty of being the only country artist I''ve seen with an eyebrow ring that doesn''t come across as some sort of "it thing" wannabee. Picture Kurt Kobain crossing Jack Ingram and you get a general idea of what the guy looks like.
Davis has a knack for songwriting and a good eye for covers, particularly for Skynyrd, where he''s played Tuesday''s Gone and All I Can Do Is Write About It, who of my favorite Skynyrd tunes. But I generally am not interested in cover acts, and Davis is not one. I really liked what I heard of his songs.
