MP3 Meeshee - A friend is a present you give yourself

A four piece Bay Area band. If you like twee bands that combine like both female & male vocal qualities and perspectives - some call this stuff "diary rock" but we call it Mmm-mmm good.

14 MP3 Songs
POP: Delicate, ROCK: Emo

Details:
The Oakland, CA based quartet of Meeshee consists of Scott Grieder, Brian Kirk, Nicole Mournian & Davin Bogan. Meeshee collectively shares it''s singing and songwriting credits, combining influences from life on the east & west coasts and beyond. A careful blend of sarcasm, cynicism, true love and shimmering harmonies is what makes Meeshee a truly unique and sincere group. The vocals of meeshee are of an angelic power that floats above seemingly simple guitar, piano, and upright bass.

Their debut full length album, "a friend is a present you give yourself", is a self-published mix of studio recordings by Tim Mooney (American Music Club) & DIY home recordings that were mixed at Tiny Telephone in SF.

Meeshee can be heard also heard on the Amoeba Records compilation Independent Sounds: Volume 3 cd, their self-titled 5 song ep, and a show-only 6 song ep entitled: "You will be one of those people in life who goes places".

Review: Meeshee- s/t ep (2000)
Submitted for your approval: a debut five-track, eleven-minute ep of exquisite, wistful pop miniatures from this Bay Area trio. These quiet, sparsely arranged gems go down like imported dark chocolate... sweet and creamy, just bitter enough to avoid sugar overdose. Nicole Mournian''s gently intoned vocals are a pure pleasure to these jaded ears- nice to hear a singer who knows how to achieve more by projecting less. IN fact, the skillful restraint meeshee employ so well here is actually reminiscent of Fifties threesome The Fleetwoods- I''d like to hear these guys work up a version of "Mr. Blue" for their next release. Four of these songs grapple with love gone wrong... and the one exception, "Perfect Summer," contains the ominous lyric "standing on the seashore/hoping it would be more." Yet, despite the sad mood conveyed throughout, the ep leaves this listener nicely warmed by its conclusion, ready to play the whole thing again. It''s the perfect soundtrack for those crisp autumn days... leaning against the window, watching the wind bat leaves around the yard. - Craig Bishop, Amoeba Music
