Megan Bowman is inspired by the human condition and the universe that cradles us. Her style of rootsy jazz pop embraces her wonderlust. "I strive for honesty in my music", she says. "These songs are definitely coming from a deeper place". Described in 2004 by the Canberra Times as "an ambassador for Australian music" and by Australian Music Week as one of "Australia''s most talented unsigned artists", Megan Bowman is working hard on home-soil and abroad.
And it shows. Megan Bowman recently recorded songs for her debut album in New York City with musicians associated with artists such as Ani Difranco, Norah Jones, Lou Reed and Rival Schools. The album will be released this year. In 2004 Megan Bowman won best song for ''Lavender Girl'' in the Australian Music Week songwriting contest (blues/folk/country category). In 2005 she has already featured as an award-winning artist at AMW, played established events such as the Frankston International Guitar Festival and Brisbane''s Valley Fiesta, and received finalist nominations in two categories of the Australian Songwriters Association National Songwriting Contest.
Megan Bowman is a woman who delivers a powerful live performance. People connect strongly with her energy and dynamic vocals. After performing at the Montreal International Folk Festival in July 2003, Megan Bowman relocated to New York City which triggered a succession of live shows at established venues including CB Gallery, Arlene''s Grocery, Meow Mix, The Bitterend and Terra Blues, venues renowned for artists such as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley and Norah Jones. In 2004 Megan Bowman performed a residency at Disneyworld Florida with members of Descendance, the Australian Indigenous entertainment group, for the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Attendances exceeded all expectations and the act was voted the Festival''s most popular entertainment. American audiences embraced the unique collaboration of indigenous culture with Megan''s soulful music. In an unprecedented event, the troupe visited and performed for elders of the Seminole American Indian tribe in Florida. "I was deeply moved and honored by our collaboration", says Megan Bowman. "I think its one of my proudest experiences as an Australian musician".
Megan Bowman''s debut EP was recorded in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia with an A-team of Aussie music professionals (Paul Kelly; Rebecca''s Empire) in 2001. On the strength of this debut EP, Megan Bowman was promoted as a feature artist on https://www.tradebit.com and is a recurring feature artist on the USA/https://www.tradebit.com radio show. Songs from the EP have been aired on the top-ratings Australian TV show The Panel and college radio in Melbourne, Montreal and New York City. Notably, the award-winning ''Lavender Girl'' elicits a powerful audience response. When interviewed about its creation, Megan Bowman responded: "I recorded ''Lavender Girl'' in a small closet... All I had were some candles, a cup of tea and an old classical guitar. Part way through my playing, the atmosphere in that closet reached a higher vibration, like I wasn''t alone anymore...I finished singing and Andy [Stewart] finally asked how I was feeling; I replied ''Well, the temperature in here has just risen 10 degrees. How are you?''"
Megan Bowman is currently residing and performing in Australia and will release her debut album and tour extensively in 2005-2006.
