Details:
Meghan Cary is the teller of many stories, and the most beautiful of them all is her own. The New York City based singer/songwriter has steadily won over the hearts of audiences from NYC to Austin, TX with her thoughtful, introspective musical tapestries, beautifully woven with sentiments of life, love and loss. Cary''s music is sometimes sorrowful, often silly, but her compositions, spun in a fresh well-crafted blend of pop, rock, folk and country, are bound by a single thread - they''re all undeniably honest.

For her part, Cary is all too familiar with the often-harsh realities of this world. She began making music in 1993 with Matthew Black, a man she met while performing a play in Maryland. The two played gigs throughout the northeast - Matthew on an old Martin guitar, Meghan singing the harmonies with an occasional lead. they also fell in love and were eventually engaged. Cary felt she was traveling toward her childhood fantasy of a life making music, but the journey threatened to end abruptly with Matthew''s unexpected death less than two years later.

"When Matti died, I lost my best friend and soul mate," says Cary. "But I knew he wouldn''t want me to give up the dream. I wrote music because it was the only way I found to survive the greatest loss in my life to date. I picked up Matti''s Martin and started playing because it was the only way I knew to keep the dream alive."

Cary found refuge and solace in songwriting, and the results can be heard on her debut CD, New Shoes. Billboard Magazine, in awarding it the Critic''s Choice tag, described New Shoes as "reminiscent of the initial efforts of Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin." ASCAP selected Cary''s title track for their East Coast Pop workshop immediately after its release in May of 1998. The artist has since become a mainstay at New York City clubs like the Bitter End and CB''s Gallery as well as the Point and the Tin Angel in Philadelphia.

Although it has not yet been released, Cary''s second CD Onion Dream, has already found itself on a "best of 2000" list: "MEGHAN CARY, ONION DREAM - A pre- ''best of'' for 2001. If the three song ''Rough Cuts'' pre-release of this disc is any indication, the Hershey native now living in New York is a star waiting to happen." (Barry Fox -The Patriot News) The eleven song CD features lushly produced tracks as well as some of Cary''s signature simple acoustic songs. Look for Onion Dream in the Spring of 2001.

Cary, born in Hershey, PA, studied mathematics and chemistry while at Duke University, in hopes of becoming a doctor; but, her creative passions would not be denied. She made an about-face while in school, ultimately earning her B.A. in Theatre before going on to obtain her M.F.A. in Acting at Florida State University''s Asolo Conservatory.

She has subsequently performed in more than 50 plays and musicals throughout the United States and Europe while simultaneously working in film, television and radio. Cary is a charter member of the NYC-based, Actor''s Shakespeare Company. If you haven''t caught her playing Helena, you have probably seen or heard Cary in your living room selling you everything from diapers to long distance service.
