Chris Merkley has traveled extensively in Europe and the U.S. with his band, The Crooners. He has released two albums with them and recently recorded a solo performance in his hometown. The album, entitled "One Foot", includes select moments from one night of music and offers listeners a glimpse into the kind of energy a room full of familiar faces can create when gathered.
Merkley''s primary influences are the bluesmen of the early 1900''s. His songwriting blends numerous variations of the blues as they were interpreted over the course a century. A variety of themes find their way into his creations resulting in a unique blend of American roots music.
It''s not quite blues, not quite folk and even borders on rock and roll.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Merkley tackles the task of coordinating vocals, guitar and harmonica as if they were each individually his only focus. He found himself running away to the streets of Europe in the summers following his college years to experience the ways of a busker with his group of friends, The Crooners. It was there, playing for the people in the streets, that he discovered the most basic fundamentals of what music brings to life. In between summer tours, Merkley returned to the states with a renewed perspective of music and performance to create "One Foot".
Merkley now resides in New York City where he has begun recording his next album.
