M. Headphone is made up of a closely-knit group of friends who have been making music (in various combinations) for more than 13 years. The current incarnation of the group has been intact since 1998, when the members left Connecticut and moved to San Francisco. The band''s sound is a unique style of rock and roll that they have deemed "eclectopop." "We write songs that have significance for the soul," says Dylan.
M. Headphone is made up of Vocalists Dylan Connor (Lead Guitar) and Dod Andrew (Rhythm Guitar), Bassist Trevor Coen, and Drummer Greg Thorne. The band has just released an acoustic-based album made up of songs by Dylan, that they developed over the past year at their weekly unplugged shows. The band recorded the album completely live, in hopes of capturing the energy and spontaneity of their live shows.
They recorded their first album as M. Headphone in 1997 while still residing on the East Coast. They played the New York club circuit, and within months, were playing to over 200 enthusiastic fans at the legendary "Continental" in Greenwich Village. Shortly after, they moved to San Francisco and were seen by Bruce Solar (booking agent for Cake) at their very first SF gig. He told them he liked what he saw and heard, and eventually deemed them the "most persistent band in the city." Shortly after, Scott Llamas of PopSmear records caught a gig and invited them to record at the company''s studios.
The resulting album, "Our Future Depends on it," which was released in 2000, climbed above The Strokes, Bush, and Superchunk in CMJ reports. The band has supported such notable acts as Cracker, The Violent Femmes, and Blink 182; and their music has been featured on national ESPN and Fox television broadcasts.
With two songwriters, Dylan Connor and Dod Andrew, they serve up a wide range of styles, flavors and attitudes. Their tunes can be sarcastic and irreverent, or serious and introspective. They have a vast catalog of original material (100+ songs), which are in constant rotation, along with frequent surprise covers, to make each show a unique experience for fans. They also like to alternate between electric and acoustic shows, performing completely different sets for each.
