Bio for LaVerne Rivers Banks
LaVerne Rivers Banks has been singing and playing Gospel music for over thirty-eight years. Her mission is to share inspirational and encouraging music to the Christian family, and compelling music to those in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. LaVerne uses her music as an avenue to help spread the Gospel message throughout the world.
Recording and sharing Gospel music is personally rewarding to LaVerne, however she insists on giving all the glory back to God. He is the one who gave her the talent and ability to express His love, goodness and mercy through music, and her recordings are packed with powerful songs that portray her glorification.
Some people call LaVerne a “real Austinite” because she still lives in Austin, Texas, where she was born and reared. She is married to Charles Banks, Sr., her husband of thirty-six years, and they are the proud parents of four children with their spouses, and have seventeen beautiful grandchildren.
Through the years LaVerne has fulfilled many roles: wife, mother, grandmother, head musician and organist at her church for over thirty-eight years, and a lead singer in the choir. But underlying all of that has been creation - the writing and singing of Gospel music. LaVerne says, "Writing and singing Gospel music comforts me because it is a reflection of who I am. I draw strength from the music. Also, it''s about sharing. It feels good to share what''s inside of me through my music. When I sing, I feel God''s pleasure. My songs speak the life I live for Jesus Christ."
“O Lord My God” CD Description
When the time came to settle on a name for this album, the words “O Lord My God” continued to flow through LaVerne’s mind, as she wanted the album title and the songs to reflect the glory of God, His ownership of her, and her reverence for Him. This is a solo album where all ten songs are original and inspired from the throne of grace to her heart to share with the world. Her voice and music are best described as soothing and spiritually uplifting. The songs are not only about glorifying and praising, but about daily living and serving. The album begins with music to the title song “O Lord My God” playing in the background as LaVerne briefly speaks, giving honor to God. As from her own life, she realizes the pain and suffering that Christians often endure, and “I Won’t Let Go” appeals to hurting hearts and troubled lives. “Let the Words of My Mouth” and “A Touch from You, Jesus” are earnest prayers and supplications that are fit for the start of any day to make it through. The last song, “I Still Do,” is a loving tribute to Charles Banks, Sr., LaVerne’s husband of thirty-six years, and dedicated to their commitment to each other in Jesus Christ. The music style for this song is different from the previous nine, as it features a piano ballad with strings to build it into a delightful spiritual love song for any couple to enjoy.
