michael ferry - "ferry tales"

michael ferry has been workingon his solo offering,"ferry tales", since https://www.tradebit.com''s been writing songs for way longer....

"i started out in 1975 with a guitar and a stool, gigging in folk clubs in western mass. i was in high school but i looked old enough so i was able to begin my musical journey at the tender age of 17", says ferry. "one thing led to another and i wound up playing all over."

this led michael through an interesting musical career that has run the gamut from solo act to sideman to band leader/songwriter for "the orphans", a jazz-blues rock act that existed through the 90''s in the western massachusetts rock scene. "we had some great success, did a lot of shows and had a great time. but eventually everything changes...," adds ferry.

michael ferry has shared the stage with a wide range of national artists such as southside johnny and the asbury jukes, the fabulous thunderbirds, nils lofgren, clarence clemons, jonathan edwards, aztec two-step, roomful of blues and vassar clements among others.

"ferry tales" is the first solo project from michael and features a songwriting style that invites comparisions from john mellancamp to james taylor to bob dylan. michael has a soulful vocal style that, combined with a folk-pop sensibility, will intrigue and draw any listener into his world through his innovative approach and lyrical style.

recorded mostly in western massachusetts, "ferry tales" features two tracks recorded in woodstock, new york.
these two tracks,"my faith was shaken" and "treadmill" were produced by legendary drummer jerry marotta(hall and oates, paul mccartney, peter gabriel, elvis costello,etc.).
marotta contributed his production expertise and his unique musicianship on the two tracks that are clear standouts on the disc.

"it was an unbelievable learning experience to be in that type of creative environment. to breathe that rareified air
and be inspired by such talent and professionalism. jerry taught me so much in my time with him, not the least was how to ''work the song''", enthuses ferry.

so what should you expect from this record? it''s a musical landscape of ferry''s life dotted with his wry observations about life and the world we all live in. this collection of songs begins as an acoustic offering and slowly ramps up to the last two marotta-produced selections from woodstock.

the opening track, "shelter",is an acoustic paean of love and devotion augmented with gorgeous backing harmonies. "resurrection girl" begins with the lonesome sound of a country train barrelling through the night as the song segues into the real life story of ferry''s journey into newfound love. "nothin''s on the level" is ferry''s sarcastic take on the world of talk show media and intergenerational ironies. this song is savagely satirical and leaves no doubt where ferry stands. "treadmill" is a look at the haunting, lonely world of the workday commute and all of us who participate in it daily.

introspective, funny, bittersweet, urbane, heartfelt and entertaining...."ferry tales" is a delicious slice of folk-pop performance and songwriting that will resonate with the listener through many spins....
