Details:
Formed in Alabama in 1971 and fronted by longtime music veteran John D. Wyker, Sailcat had an immediate hit with the title track single from their Southern Rock Opera MOTORCYCLE MAMA.

Motorcycle Mama reached #12 on Billboard in the summer of 1972 and Sailcat achieved performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City and on national television on Dick Clark''s American Bandstand and toured to promote the album.

Citinig burnout from touring John D. Wyker returned to Muscle Shoals to focus on his career as a songwriter and went on to write hits for several other artists like John Prine, Delbert McClinton & Bonnie Bramlett, Mavis Staples, The Purify Brothers, Alex Taylor, Eddie Hinton, Bjork & The Sugarcubes, and others as well as the theme to the popular television show Austin City Limits, My Baby Ruth.

Sailcat is pleased to offer this sneak peak, pre-release knowing it''ll take months to finish the whole new Southern Rock Opera album, they thought it only right to give the public a tease of what''s to come.

The 1972 original album Motorcycle Mama was produced by longtime friend and Swamper Pete Carr as well as the new opera, Motorcycle Man. Carr''s distinctively creative guitar work can be heard all over both albums.

Wyker first met Carr when he (Carr) was 15 years old upon Carr arriving in Decatur Alabama in 1965 showing up with Gregg & Duane Allman who had come to town with Wyker''s first partner in the music business going back to the late 1950''s teen years, Johnny Sandlin. Carr, Sandlin and the Allmans went on to form the Hourglass, the precurser to The Allman Brother''s Band and before Duane turned up in Muscle Shoals to replace Eddie Hinton on lead guitar for the Muscle Shoals Rythm Section, Carr replaced Allman as lead for the rythm section and went on to play on albums by Bob Seegar, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, LeBlanc & Carr, Barbara Streisand, Simon & Garfunkel and many others earning a large share of gold and platinums records.
