Sasha Semenoff, a native of Riga, Latvia received his musical education in Riga and at the Handel conservatory in Munich. During Word War II he spent four years in several concentration camps. You''ll hear his reflections on the Holocaust in his song "Remember." He performed with his orchestra in Europe and came to New York in 1949. His career in the United States began at the Waldorf Astoria as the orchestra violinist. He traveled the country with several dance bands, playing the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco and many others. From 1951-1959 he performed at the famous Catskill Mountains in New York. In 1959 Sasha brought a group of violins to the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. He performed with his "Romantic Strings" in the Dunes Hotel''s Sultan''s Table and other major hotels. He backed such stars as the famous "Rat Pack" (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.), Barbra Streisand, and Elvis Presley. Sasha and his strings have performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton. In 1971 Sasha Semenoff and his "Romantic Strings" appeared on the Merv Griffin show from Caesars Palace in Vegas. From 1973-1986 Sasha and his strings performed nightly at the M.G.M. Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
