MP3 Peter Moffitt - Crew of Seven and Other Songs

A stroll through Brooklyn; hot jazzman on piano; you could have a joyous encounter: Piano everywhere, some blues harp, some jazz bassoon, some crazy kinda rhythm (Definitely not thin).

7 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Fusion, JAZZ: Latin Jazz

Details:
Yup, piano from age 6, jazz awakenings in high school, Night Train (house blues band for the Black Elks in Mt. Vernon, Ohio) during college years, music school (SUNY Purchase) and many many strange and wonderful Ordinaires gigs here in metro NYC.

Rent got paid mostly from fixing everyone else''s piano.

Full-blown technician, tuning in recording studios, always at periphery of ever-churning music business, nose flat up against the window, then BOOM one day Bob James says "hey, that sounds good (I was test-driving one of my pianos), put that on tape (remember tape?) and send it to me!" Well four tapes later he got me together with his publishing people and a year after that I was in the studio for RCA Novus, cutting two CD''s (actually we made LP''s and cassettes alongside--I had to make both digital and analogue masters) under the benevolent gaze of Steve Backer: "Zoe''s Song" and "Riverdance." Both outa print and bought up by some mysterious unknown (the BMG warehouse won''t tell me who; something about "need to know"....).

It is always a bad idea to be a startup, but those years, the late eighties, were particularly awful, because the record business was suffering from loss of raison d''etre, and the rivers of cash, taken for granted by nearly everyone for decades, quickly dried up under the unsympathetic gaze of foreign capitalists. "Here come the neocons!"

Now, with the efforts of Derek Sivers (the main CD Baby), we''re on the brink of a new way to flow music out to audiences, not only retailing direct from this site, but through licensed-download services that are gearing up to provide a whole new paradigm for music distribution, freeing us from the top-down corporate hierarchies that have enjoyed deciding what people could or could not buy for their own entertainment.

I know that my music and my artistic temperament won''t subside and let me lead a "normal" life (yer a musician! You people PLAY for a living, don''tcha? The rest of us gotta WORK!), so here is my third CD, "Crew of Seven and Other Songs," which represents the beginning of the end of my nuclear winter.

It''s highly personal and definitely East America; I (and my two dear friends, Richard McManus and Mike Rabinowitz) worked on it like a collection of paintings, combining architectural music-structure with in-the-moment playing.

There are frequently many layers of awareness, and it takes many listenings to ferret out the details.

All are intentional, and I would be obliged to anyone who wants to discuss any of this.

I also did all the artwork, from soup to nuts.

That''s why I think of these CD''s as hand-made music; it depends utterly on real-time playing while reflecting the latest technology available to this budget!

In Peace--PM
