Brooklyn, NY based Moonraker formed in Boston during 2000 when two film students, David Moltz and Kody Akhavi, and their roommate, drummer Dan Mintzer, began experimenting with electronic music. They were joined music students Kelli Scarr and Dan Chen, and a strong musical and philosophical connection was established between the five. Musically, the band has never been easily categorized. Their multifaceted sound has been described as electronic rock or experimental dance rock. Moonraker has been compared to Björk, Portishead, Stereolab, early U2 and the Police.
Over the last two years, Moonraker has performed alongside Metric, Elefant, The Stars, Ambulance LTD, and the Broken Social Scene, developing a faithful fan base in the Northeast. The band won WBOS'' Best New Band in Boston [in 2001], they receive regular airplay on college and satellite radio, and recently they were awarded Best New Band at the 2003 Boston Music Awards.
In addition to Moonraker''s debut LP Nada Brahma, the band has released an EP, a live CD and the self-titled 2003 CD on Immergent Recordings.
