Details:
Molly Irene produced and released her first CD, "Sing For You", in September of 2001. The record was created as a collection of older and more recent recordings spanning 1997 to 2001.
Like many solo artists, Molly has relied on the collaboration of musicians willing to contribute their time to her performances and studio work; her earliest recordings consisted primarily of local musicians from her home base of Kansas City and recording engineers from the University of Missouri. These recordings hold a special place in her heart, as they represent some of her finest and most spontaneous creations.
"Only One" was one of her first songs she ever wrote, and has become a clear fan favorite. A truly inspired creation; Molly claims that "it literally flowed out of me, and the meaning and purpose of the song arrived much later." The song deals with the degeneration of the mind as a result of Alzheimer''s (the debilitating disease from which her grandfather suffered). Originally, the title song "Sing For You", was never intended for the album. Molly improvised the song as a warm-up, but it proved to be the best tune to describe her life as a female artist.
After college, Molly returned to St. Louis to further her music career. She took part in several promotional shows and secured support dates for local bands. The following year she journeyed to Ireland to feed her muse. Molly backpacked with her CD''s while busking on the streets and in the pubs. The fertile folk music culture of the country provided great inspiration - not to mention a historical resonance- to her work (pub patrons repeatedly compared her Nanci Griffith and Eva Cassidy). Molly''s own "Sing For You" was the most requested title at every show, and the CD of the same name has sold some 600 copies at performances alone.
Molly currently resides in St. Louis, where she continues to study music and perform locally. However, she is spending session time producing her next album of originals, a collection that promises to exhibit her wide vocal range and the deftness in the area of alternative pop and folk, country, blues-grass, and soul. The work keeps her writing fresh and her performance increasingly refined.
