Notes of Monte Carlo’s speaking with The Spice Merchants, XXVIII

I came to break, I came to crash, it’s I.T.C., I’m into cash.
I.T.C. the chorus of “The Greatest”, from “I.T.C. International” the album

Terry Odds is the artist I.T.C. Born in Baton Rouge, LA. His father, the director of the church’s music department and his mother, a southern gospel singer with roots in soulful hymns, made a lasting impression on their son. The early influence of the “South” would stay with him and nurture a passion for music. He would go on to take those talents and infuse them with his innate ability to craft lyrics that capture the current and future of hip-hop. After the first hip-hop track reached his ears, Kool Moe Dee’s “Wild Wild West,” something clicked inside him, his path to becoming an M.C. was set in motion.

Then he moved to Cali.
Transplanted from Baton Rouge, LA. to Berkeley. CA, the whole family was in for culture shock. With West Coast music at its height, the sounds of Ice-Cube and A Tribe Called Quest would help to cultivate I.T.C.’s original sound, as well as open his eyes beyond the traditional upbringing his parents had in mind. In a home where listening to Too Short could lead to consequences, he had choices to make. And although it meant going against the grain, the Bay and hip-hop, had their own influences. So what do you do? If you’re I.T.C., you split the difference. Get your degrees, don’t get caught up, and keep putting the pen to pad.

Now I.T.C. has thrown out the playbook with his new single “International” from the forthcoming album of the same name. In “International” I.T.C. not only rep’s the Bay to the fullest, but he rep’s the world at large. With a feature and music by the “Hood Nerd” Erk the Jerk, His single “International” cracks with finger snaps, a funk-driven baseline, a unforgettable melodic whistle, and synth-horns that call up the South of his past. He lyrically encourages the listener to “Start your own label, be a CEO’s and stuff/Talent at the table now the whole world eats us”.

The concept for “International” stems from I.T.C.’s plan to broaden the audience of hip-hop, and his own horizons. I.T.C. intends to do his own thing and transcend regional, and national boundaries, and move between musical genres. Fusing old school, new school, and cutting edge to form a sound that reeks of power suits, power ties, and power steering. Hip-hop now being a global phenomenon, I.T.C. is going international. Aiming his lyrics, sound, and style, for the world stage. I.T.C. is set to push his talent to the limit, and make the whole earth… one turf.
