"Calling the cows home." That is what Monique Doolittle would attribute some her strong vocal character to. Growing up on a small farm in Mid Michigan, she spent a lot of time calling the cows and horses up to
eat when she did her chores. " It is a special sound that comes from deep inside to bring the cows in from the pasture." Says Monique. "I can''t really explain how you do it. I learned it from my mom." She adds.
Monique has gone way beyond calling the cows these days. She is very busy with a successful career as a singer and songwriter. With her soulful, gutsy voice she enjoys singing all kinds of music. "I love all music, but my heart is in the country, country music that is." She laughs. She goes on to add that her father use to force her and her brother to listen to it as kids. "We were raised listening to the old country greats, such as Johnny Cash, Buck Owens and Marty Robbins." "I didn''t like it much then, but it grew on me after awhile."
Not only can she sing a good country tune, but she can write them as well. She has written and recorded several songs and has had success with their release in the U.S. and in Europe as well. She has made numerous trips to Nashville to record and has hooked up with some of Nashville''s finest writers. "I love to write songs that have meaning. I hope that when my songs are being performed that people are touched in some way.
Monique''s latest project is a wonderful mix of Christian and Country/Christian songs that she wrote and recorded with one of her songwriting partners, Eric Clark. "It was a wonderful learning experience for me to work on Christian music." Monique States. "I have learned so much about myself and my faith from doing it." She Adds.
Monique is a very busy lady, spending most of her weekends performing. Many have said, that her energy on stage is amazing. She is such a great entertainer. Not only inspirational, but also fun to watch. When you add that all together you get the distinct impression that her calling is for the music. The cows will just have to come home on their own.
