Details:
Bio: Moorea Malatt: (pronounced: Mo-ray-uh Muh-lot)

Moorea Malatt is a young songwriter who grew up in the "Valley" near Los Angeles. As a folk singer, she felt out of place in her hometown and now lives in Bellingham, Washington and moved there for "Hippies, idealism, moss and carrot juice," she says. She first picked up an acoustic guitar inspired by the songs of Dar Williams and has taught herself ever since. Previously she had played piano as a child but had always known she would eventually wind up standing on a stage with a guitar.
Moorea identifies as culturally Jewish, a feminist, a pacifist, and a practicing Buddhist but writes her songs mostly about interpersonal relationships and love. However, her take on love ranges from grateful and optimistic to realistic and self-effacing. She also writes prolifically in many genres including spoken word, poetry, personal narrative, short fiction and considers songwriting only another branch of her passion for words. Songwriting serves as a journal of her life experiences, observances and internal process. Her songs are perfectly witty, always with a good helping of laughable irony.
Live performance and entertainment is her favorite form of self expression. She has an amazing stage presence and can be hilarious, sexy, shocking and endearing all at once. She embodies the typical folk singer, taking time to tell stories about the songs, relate to the audience and often implores them to sing along. She currently hopes to perform more often, though there is difficulty trying to tour while working full time on a degree in Psychology and Creative Writing. She will be be touring the nation this coming summer.
Her first studio produced album, "Love and Lack Thereof" employs the talents of well-known local Washington musicians like Korby Lenker on mandolin and vocals, Cat Kinsey on cello, and Kristin Allen-Zito''s harmony vocals, just to name a few of many.
