Details:
(Halifax, NS) Born in Corner Brook, NL, and raised in Cole Harbour, NS, David Bradshaw launched his first solo CD “No Place” at the Celtic Corner Irish Public House on October 2, 2008.

The fruit of years of experience and hard work, David Bradshaw is sure the release of “No Place” will make each of the places he has come from very, very proud. David’s musical talent became apparent in his teens, and he went on to study music at Dalhousie and St. Francis Xavier Universities. After a bout of severe tendonitis in his hands that could have cost him his musical career, David left formal music studies and started working for the Halifax Folklore Centre, a long-time fixture in Halifax’s musical landscape. Since then, David has become known as ‘the Folklore guy’ – the senior salesperson and apprentice luthier to owner/operator Tom Dorward. As anyone in the Halifax music scene knows, the Folklore Centre is much more than a hub of exceptional vintage instruments and expert restorations and repair. For over 35 years the Folklore Centre has fostered the growth of a multitude of local talents from Ashley MacIsaac to Joel Plaskett to Old Man Luedecke. The constant presence of Old Time, Jazz and Bluegrass resonating through the nostalgic nooks and crannies of the Folklore Centre has had a profound influence on David Bradshaw’s music, shaping the unique and eclectic sounds of “No Place” to the delight of fans from three generations.

Though David has been active in the Maritime music scene for years performing with the likes of Alex Mason and Roger Stone as well as a number of well-known cover bands (Mirror Image, Merrimac, Breton, The Plugs), this is his first release featuring entirely original material, and the timing couldn’t be better! With the success of local singer-songwriters like Dave Gunning and Jill Barber, and the rising popularity of old time- and bluegrass-influenced groups like Old Man Luedecke, The Strangeboys and Grassmarket, it is clear that Maritime audiences are hungry for David’s unique fusion of traditional sounds and current sensibilities. And with the ECMAs being held in his home town of Corner Brook this year, this is the perfect time for David to take his place on the East Coast musical stage.

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of hearing David Bradshaw’s original music, think Dave Gunning meets Norman Blake, with a resonant voice the likes of which you’ve seldom heard before. His original shows are a foot-stompin’ romp featuring top-notch finger-picking and “stick-in-your-head” melodies performed on a collection of sweet vintage instruments. Recently, David has been fortunate to share the stage with talented friends Grassmarket, and this Thursday night will join Jon Hines, Dusty Keeler and Andrea Curry for Halfnotes 8 at Ginger’s Tavern.

David has benefited from the generous support of the Government of Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture for the promotion of his CD, and recently had the honour of being selected for a prestigious Tunes at Noon showcase on the Grand Parade in Halifax. Enthusiastic audiences are making it clear that David Bradshaw is breaking the scene at exactly the right time, and proving that "No Place" is right here.
