Founded in March of 1991, The Manhattan Saxophone Ensemble gained the immediate attention of the New York jazz scene. The group has since performed solo concerts and clinics throughout the United States as well as recording with internationally renowned saxophonist David Liebman on his Owl Records release entitled Classique, (OWL066CD-3800663) and Gunnar Mossblad''s Solo release, Convergence (MMCD-2002). The ensemble''s seemingly overnight success is due as much to their unique approach to the music as to the individual artistry of the members. Together they weave the European classical tradition with hard-swinging American jazz into a virtually seamless fabric. From sensitive lyrical passages to hard driving bop punctuated with creative improvisations. The Manhattan Saxophone Ensemble offers audiences an exciting musical experience that is creative and enjoyable.

Gunnar Mossblad, is active as a composer and performer in both classical and jazz styles. He has performed and/or recorded with renowned jazz artists including David Liebman, Marvin Stamm, John Coates Jr., John D''earth, Royce Campbell, Mel Torme, Hod O''brien & Doc Severinson, to name just a few. Gunnar is the founder of the Manhattan Saxophone Ensemble and serves as the musical director for the David Liebman Big Band. He earned a B.M. in Jazz Studies and an M.M. in Saxophone Performance from The famed University of North Texas, and currently serves as the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Toledo. Gunnar is a Selmer clinician and can be heard on the Four Leaf Clover, Owl, GPC Recordings & Candid Record labels. His releases as a leader Convergence (mm-2002) and Visions (FLC-4098) have received critical acclaim.

Steve Wilson, is probably best known for his work with Out of The Blue, and most recently with Chick Corea. Steve studied woodwinds at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he remained active as a teacher and performer until moving to New York. During his college years he toured and recorded with singer Stephanie Mills. In 1986, he joined OTB, and has since worked with a host of the greats of jazz: Billy Drummond, Ralph Peterson, Jr., Ellis Marsalis, Gunther Schuller, Buster Williams, and Mel Lewis.

Dave Riekenberg, is sought after as a performer and clinician. He holds a B.M. in Theory and an M.M. in Education from the University of North Texas. His extensive touring experience has taken him throughout the World and has teamed him up with preeminent jazz artists like Jimmy Cobb, Mel Lewis, Larry Willis, Walter Booker, and Junior Cook. Dave is a member of Blood Sweat and Tears and toured with the Woody Herman Herd for three and one half years. He can be heard on Bertha Hope''s recent release for Steeple Chase Records entitled "Elmo''s Fire" (SCCD-31289).

Tim Ries, a native of Detroit, is also a graduate of the University of North Texas jearning his B.M. in Jazz Studies there, and an M.M. in Saxophone Performance and Composition from the University of Michigan. He has collaborations with Maynard Ferguson, Louie Bellson, Bob Brookmeyer, Tom Harrell, Mel Torme, and David Benoit. He is a member of the BMI Composers Workshop, and has scored over 100 tunes for jazz groups from duos to big bands. His plaing and original composition "Flight 108" was recorded with the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. A sought-after studio musician and winner of the 1989 Belgium Jazz Competition, Tim plays both sides of the Atlantic touring Europe frequently. He recently completed a tour with the Rolling Stones.
