Motivated by the youth’s hunger for “tight” music, GodFrame seeks to feed not only their ears, but their souls as well. “Kids these days are growing up on garbage music. Too many songs on the radio are teaching young people how to ‘drop it like it’s hot, do a stripper dance, chase that sexy girl, smoke something, drink something…lick this, smack that, touch this.’ And parents wonder why their teenagers are running around acting like whores and pimps. Just look at the music their listening to!” He says.
Born in California, but raised in Batesville, Arkansas, GodFrame has loved making music since a very early age. Whether it was pots and pans in the kitchen or water buckets in the backyard, he’s always been known for making noise with anything he can get his hands on. Thankfully, GodFrame has expanded his musical interests since then and is now a Christian singer/rapper/producer. He also plays the piano, drums, and saxophone. GodFrame admits, “I was always a big fan of rap music, mainly for the beats. But I didn’t always like the artists’ messages behind their songs. Then I started listening to Christian rap, and I was like oh SNAP I can do that! I figured since God is the head of my life, why not make music that sounds cool and serves Him at the same time?”
In 2005, GodFrame released his first of three solo albums, but at the time people knew him by a different name: “MixMasta212.” It wasn’t until the start of his freshman year at UCA, Conway in 2007 that he started going by “GodFrame.”
“God took me through a new spiritual season,” says GodFrame. “He sort of smacked me in the face. I realized that I had chosen the old name just at random. It didn’t really mean anything to me, it was just some name. I didn’t even have a scripture or anything to back it up. I realized that I was also a hypocrite. I wrote songs that were not focused enough on Christ. I was just making positive songs. Just because I didn’t cuss in my songs didn’t make them necessarily make them Christian. I was also guilty of rapping about one style of life and living another. I was a liar who really wanted nothing but fame.”
Growing stronger and wiser in the Word of God and learning how to be a true Christian led him to chose the name “GodFrame.” Inspired by Matthew 16:24, the name is about denying oneself. He’s focused on taking none of the glory but giving it all to God. He explains, “Leave self out of the picture. It’s not your picture frame, it’s God’s frame.”
Being only 19 years old, GodFrame knows first-hand what struggles the youth face. “Trust me, I know what it’s like. I’ve been there. I’m still there. Life ain’t easy, and temptation is all over the place. Guys, I know how hard it is to keep your eyes focused on something other than a fine girl’s butt when she walks by; I know how hard it can be to say no to alcohol, drugs, sex, anything. You''re not alone, though! Satan is slick, and he knows just how to trap us. I know sin tastes good, smells good, sounds good, looks good, feels good, but it isn’t. There’s another way to live life, and it’s through Jesus Christ.”
