Details:
My Friend Moses claim they don''t remember how, when or why they first got together. All that''s known for sure is that their name began showing up on various club calendars in late 1994. Rumor has it that three of the current members of My Friend Moses played together in bands named green Adam''s cradle and 7-color fly before kicking those bands'' singers to the proverbial curb to form a band all their own. Guitarist Tony Cushing would take over on vocals. Phil Gall egos would play guitar. Josh Cushing would play bass. David Liston would play drums. And My Friend Moses would play rock music like no other band in town ("town" being, it is widely believed, Salt Lake City, Utah.)

There have been few personnel changes. There have been stories about drummer David Liston mysteriously disappearing in 1997. These stories can''t be confirmed, but they are given weight by the fact that Dean Burrows is now seen behind the drum kit at all My Friend Moses shows. This seems odd to some because Dean Burrows was always in the crowd at My Friend Moses shows before David Liston''s disappearance. Foul play? Perhaps. But the music has not suffered.

There have been albums. Their self-titled debut surfaced in 1995, followed by an e.p. entitled one-and-a-half in 1996, the same year tony cushing co-produced the album where now? by local band go figure, which also featured appearances by Phil Gallegos and Josh Cushing. Their strongest work, however, was released just last year. Drag may be the finest independent rock record of 2002. The sound has been compared to both bands of the past (black sabbath, lynyrd skynyrd,) and present (pearl jam, tool.) Just don''t tell the members of My Friend Moses this. They consider themselves members of their own genre, a genre in which they can change musical styles on a dime. Sure, Drag may be a great heavy rock record. But the next album (Smell the Roses, available very soon) may sound absolutely nothing like Drag. Maybe it will continue in the same direction as its predecessor. Only the members of My friend Moses know for sure...and they''re sure as hell not talking.
