Details:
Washington, DC-based Olivia Mancini & the Housemates are back to follow up last year’s This Kind of Life. On The Chatterbox Ep, the band with “a taste for ’60’s pop, rock and soul,” gleefully presents more tunes “rife with trumpets, handclaps and cheery harmonies.”
Produced by Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller, Rhett Miller), this latest collection lends a “wall of sound” to Olivia’s high-spirited songs about late nights, soured friendships, and imperfecting love.
The band came together in the spring of 2005 when a group of friends – Ed Donohue (guitar), Kristin Forbes (bass, vocals), Randy Scope (drums), and Dan Swenson (trumpet, organ, vocals) – agreed to help Olivia (vocals, guitar) put together some songs she had been working on. Naming the group was easy: Most of the musicians were already housemates. The “Housemates” are no longer housemates, but they still work closely on each other’s musical projects.
Olivia and Randy have been playing together since 2001, when they met to form the rhythm section of the Washington Social Club. Their latest project, Sleeping Secrets, will release their debut album in early 2009 on Kora Records. Olivia and Randy also form the rhythm section of Ed’s critically acclaimed group, Donny Hue and the Colors. Donny Hue and the Colors will release their second LP in 2009, also on Kora Records.
