I can''t emphasize enough how sweet Heidi''s voice is. Besides excellent tone, she has great storytelling quality, very expressive.

The band is no slouch at instrumentals either, and the album boasts several excellent instrumental tracks. I just love track 2 "Big J" which has an amblin swing pace and a perfect balance of instruments, swapping between Heidi''s flute and Allen''s fiddle.

There is a wonderful relaxed feel to this band that I really enjoy. There are also a lot of interestin touches, percussion and other instrumentation that step outside the Celtic tradition and add a distinctiveness to the music without being blatently rock oriented or drawing on a specific ethnicity.

Natterjack is a fine New England band that bears watching."

Duffy the Dancer by Allen Church

Duffy was a dancer but no one ever knew
No one but his daughters thought it something he would do
They knew him as a sculptor with good hands for his trade
People came from miles around to see the art he made

At the end of every day when the work and the chores were done
Duffy danced and his daughters played to the setting sun

One daughter would accompany clapping hands and tapping feet
The other played the fiddle to her sister''s steady beat
Hornpipe, waltz, polka, jig, anything they''d feel
But the tune that Duffy loved the most was when they played the reel

Their fingers they would fly so fast and soon they''d get the groove
Duffy couldn''t stop himself, his body had to move
He would chug and skip and hop and slide across the floor
And when his daughters had to stop he always wanted more

At the end of every day when the work and the chores were done
Duffy danced and his daughters played to the setting sun

More he knew would turn to less the more his daughters grew
And by and by he''d let them go the way we''re meant to do
Still the music moves him, he still hears it in the air
And Duffy he still dances when no one else is there

From Old Shoes by Allen Church

And all the walks and all the streets, all the other socks and shoes they''d meet
All the steps that they got to know, they took a chance on the heel and toe
They learned to dance on the heel and toe

They didn''t always know when to leave, a little longer as long as we''ve
Got something to talk about, we''ll wag our tongues and pull our insoles out
We''ll wag our tongues and pull our insouls out

They worked quite well way back when. Some day I''ll wear shoes like that again.

Here''s one listener''s comment:
What can I say? If you like music, you should hear this band. They play well, sing great, create enchanting arrangements and have a thoughtful lyricist in Allen Church. Hop2it, their second CD, is enjoyable listening from start to finish with some stand out material that displays the band''s unique sound including the spirited Duffy the Dancer, the reggae influenced Paddy, and the swinging, bluesy feeling of Blue Toads. Definately worth your attention.....
