Attending the Democratic National Convention, a legend in American music was moved by the intelligence, composure and the promise of real change by the party’s dynamic nominee, Barack Obama. Compelled to do much more than to provide 1 vote to the Obama campaign, Ziggy “King of the funky drums” Modeliste, did what he does best, which is music. Upon returning home the legendary Meters drummer and masterpiece rhythm creator (timeless hits; “Cissy Strut”, ‘People Say”, etc) completed a composition that supports Obama’s insistence for change and offers its own mantra with Zig’s patented groove, “O-B-A-M-A, Obama”. “Obama Groove” was produced to contribute much more to the Obama/ Biden campaign.

About Zig
Ziggy recorded on all the Original LP’s with “The Meters” and has also been sampled many times over from artists such as Musiq, Queen Latifah, Run DMC, NWA, Ice Cube, Salt N’ Pepa, Cypress Hill, EPMD, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, Naughty by Nature, Tweet just to name a few. In 2005, Ziggy is a BMI award winner for Young Gunz, “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” and also Ziggy’s drum sound provided the main loops for Amerie’s “1Thing” nominated for 2 Grammy’s which also reached the R & B charts at #1. Ziggy has written over 200 songs individually and collectively with “The Meters” that display his songwriting genius and distinctive Funk Styles. This collection of songs has been released on over 46 albums nationally and internationally. His tunes have also been in movies such as “Two Can Play That Game”, “Jackie Brown”, “Drum Line”, “8 Mile” a Nike Commercial for Footaction and most recently in the movie “Hancock”. Zig and Kathy Modeliste make their home in Oakland CA where Zig and Kathy direct their music publishing company Jomod Music publishing and record label JZM Records. Zig performs with his bands, The Aahkesstra, The Funk Revue and The Meters. His new CD will be coming out in 2009 as well as a drum instructional video!
