Details:
Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Matt Maier, made a decision in the Fall of 2007 to make a dance EP. It began as a side project to the more traditional music he was known for, but it soon became the focus of his ambitions. Matt sold his accordion to buy a synthesizer, traded his banjo for an electric guitar, and replaced his four track tape recorder with a full band. When Megaphones hit the scene, they took everyone by surprise.

Absorbing influence from the great and the obscure, Megaphones give a tip of the cap to groups like The Talking Heads, Gary Newman & Tubeway Army, David Bowie, and the Magnetic Fields. With a talent for mixing the recognizable with the unfamiliar, Megaphones have continuously drawn attention from promoters and college radio stations; most recently playing with Mates of State at 89.1 WIDR''s "Barking Tuna Festival".

Megaphones recorded the four song "Damage EP" for Togethering Records in early 2008. This collection of songs shows remarkable potential considering that it is literally made up of the first four songs that the band wrote. The songs are low fi in the spirit of The Modern Lovers or Jeremy Jay, while retaining a touch of something completely original.

On their second EP, "Paradise", this originality comes into full bloom. Not only does the EP exceed expectations (it sold out at its release at Kalamazoo''s State Theater on Oct. 18, 2008), but it leaves the listener wanting to hear what''s next for the up and coming band. "Paradise" shows Megaphones going in a direction that few can do right, true pop music. The kind of music that is universal, but still connects with the listener in a very personal way.
