Details:
The Thieves on Stratton Avenue is Moriah''s first recorded collection of sound.

It was created in secret, in the still of night, with a sea of stars to watch over an enchanted space. (A space in the likeness of a country barn as to discourage any intruders). There was a rumor in the town that something very mysterious was happening . . . rumors of a haunted angelic voice that people would hear very faintly through the treetops at half past midnight . . .rumors of shadowy figures moving in and out of the rows of corn next to the barn . . sometimes carrying large awkward parcels . . .

Finally, on September 29th, 2008, on the same day that the stockmarket plunged to a historic low, the barn''s double doors opened up in the mid day sun and put to rest the rumors, releasing a dark sweet sound of honey and salt.

The recording itself is rooted in a musical core of acoustic guitar, upright bass, and Moriah''s vocal, which is somewhere between Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, and Carol King. Strings, piano, pedal steel, and electric guitar add layers of moody emotional texture around lyrics that are laced with both hope and heaviness. There are subtle but powerful references throughout the album to folk, jazz, classical, and religious music, all four important parts of
Moriah''s musical prologue.

Born to hippie parents in a little shack outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Moriah came into this world as Moriah Margaret Harris, a brown haired, brown eyed, rosy round baby. When she was two, her grandfather, the radio scientist, would listen to her coo and knew she had the gift of music bestowed upon her by the gods, or genetics, or maybe by both.

Sure enough. the cooing baby soon turned into a violinist, the violinist turned into a pianist, the pianist picked up a guitar and strummed a few chords, and the chords turned themselves into songs . . .

And now!

A tapestry of emotions and color.
A collaboration of musicians under the night sky.
A secret released.

The Thieves on Stratton Avenue.
