Bio
Formed in early 2003 as the brainchild of long-time friends Ben Chung and Dave Zavala, (guitars), the Blackbirdz evolved into a five-piece original rock band. First to join Ben and Dave was bass player Ted Mabbatt, a former member of San Diego bands Good China and 20 Miles South. It then became clear that keyboards were a missing ingredient in the mix, and soon thereafter Greg Ellis joined the line-up. Finally, in late 2006, thier newest member, DJ Bonin, was added on drums. DJ has played with such bands as New Relics, Delilah Jones, and Shoestring Strap. Thus the Blackbirdz realized the vision of a rock band with an original, but recognizable and solid vintage sound. They offer an approachable mix of originals and covers.
