Details:
I grew up listening to the classic singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s, which my mother played on the kitchen stereo as she made breakfast every morning. Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Elton John. If it had an acoustic guitar, a piano, and a tendency to make you weepy, you can bet I heard it while I ate my pancakes.

Meanwhile a constant stream of 70s rock and 80s pop escaped under the door (always closed, of course) of my older sister''s bedroom. Zeppelin and The Cars were locked in a struggle for volume supremacy with Gordon Lightfoot and Gerry Rafferty, crooning down the hall in the kitchen.

Duran Duran always seemed to come out on top.

Perhaps this explains why I constantly write lovelorn pop songs and then find great musicians to rock them out a bit. I''ll leave you to categorize the result.

Cold Water, my sophomore effort, was recorded with some truly fantastic musicians, including the outstanding rhythm section of Robbie Sinclair and Stewart Myers (Jason Mraz, Rachael Yamagata), guitarist Mark Goldenberg (too many credits to name, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, er... William Shatner), keyboardist Daniel Clarke (KD Lang), producer/writer Chris Keup (Jason Mraz), Helen Horal, Landon Fishburne, and Kevin McNoldy.

Making music, or more accurately making music and trying to share it with other people, is a funny thing to do. It''s a mix of hope and goodwill, vanity and pride, but mostly, just a desire to share something of yourself that you think is worth sharing. In the process you get to connect with a lot of people who you don''t know, but suspect are cool because their brains seem to settle into the same musical grooves yours does. I do hope that you''ll check out some of my music so that I can keep making it, and one day stumble on the perfect groove for your particular brain.

Sincerely,
Brian Kingston
