Born and raised by a classical music loving piano teacher and a Hank Williams devotee prairie boy gave Joseph Blood a unique mix of influences. The blend of classical melodies and “tear in the beer” songwriting that surrounded his younger years formed a sonic template that has allowed him to create a wildly diverse portfolio.
He began writing songs and at the age of 13 and gigging and touring professionally by 17. His versatility as a guitar player has made him a highly touted Vancouver session player for both recording and touring. His writing, a unique blend of country, pop and Canadiana, is now gaining him recognition for being a fine up and coming songwriter.
He is an experienced writer and has licensed music to television shows “Friday Night Lights” and “America’s Next Top Model”. As a guitar player he has collaborated with a range of artists including Canadian country star Aaron Pritchet, hip hop drummer Eric Bobo (Cypress Hill) and producer Dave Ogilvie (Marilyn Manson, David Bowie). As a solo artist he has had the pleasure of working with singers Frazey Ford (The Be Good Tanyas) and Chrystal Leigh (Jakalope).
His band’s versatility has allowed him to play numerous gigs throughout the lower mainland and western Canada. He has been included in many festivals including Vancouver’s Festival of Guns and New Music West. Whether playing solo in an intimate bistro or leading his seven piece band at corporate events at Canada Place, Joseph Blood has the ability to entertain and deliver second to none performances.
As a guitar and bass player, Joseph Blood has played stages across Europe and North America with a variety of Vancouver acts including Dave Ogilvie’s Jakalope, Nim Vind, Crystal Pistol, CC Voltage, Ben Sigston and Jessica Beach. His debut solo release “On the Road With the Killer” is his first solo release and is seeing radio play on stations from Nanaimo to Texas.
