The music has it''s feet planted in Texas roots with it''s heart of European Rock and it''s head in the clouds of imagination and possibility... cool huh? cool
Behind the Scenes:
So this is the notorious sinners... what''s the story behind the name you might be asking? The short of it is that''s just what we are - sinners... No longer a term of judgment but rather an honest statement. And thank God for grace baby! It''s a spiritual thing and that''s a concept we should all try and wrap our heads around.
With a name like the notorious sinners one must be a bit intrigued as to what this band is all about. When talking to front man Chris Taylor he simply says "The Power of Music!" The band was founded by Taylor and the now departed Eddie Morales back in September 2002.
"Eddie is a great singer/songwriter who also taught himself bass guitar and can do programming and drum loops and all that jazz. He played bass, sang wrote and did all that kind of stuff for us for a season. He''s moved on to other things but the friendship still remains." Jeff Gabelmann plays lead guitar and John Condit plays the drums. Will Mueller is one of the newest members, taking over the role of bass player and David Martin (from the band Lady Jane Grey) has come on board to sing, play electric and acoustic guitars and even some keyboards.
Taylor''s influences range from Bob Dylan, the Waterboys and Ryan Adams all the way to the other extreme with bands like Radiohead and U2. He has fronted several bands but has been putting out cd''s under his own name for the past several years. Working with the likes of Vigilantes of Love, Rick Elias and the Ragamuffin Band, Waterdeep, and the 77''s, to name a few. Jeff Gabelmann had jammed in garages all around Texas since the mid 90''s before joining the sinners and his guitar chops were influenced by Rush and The Allman Brothers. John Condit is known to have any Eagles CD, Boston or Sting in his CD player. Will Mueller has a diverse musical appreciation stretching from 80''s glam rock and alternative pop, to classical symphonies, to old jazz and swing, to 60''s and 70''s rock, funk and folk. Basically digging anything done well by people who are genuine artists and masters of their craft. People who are in it for the music, not the paycheck and fame. David Martin is into everything from Sarah Mclachlan, Patty Griffin, John Mayer, David Gray, Anita Baker, October Project to Sheryl Crow.
When the five of them got together, the one thing they agreed upon was that the music should be full of energy and melody and great songs!
As of right now, the loveable Sinners are just starting to stretch their musical chops. They''ve been playing dates with Ruben V whenever possible, as well as getting airplay in New York and XM Radio (We''ve Said All There is to Say, Damaged Goods). "I feel like we''re just about to take flight and it feels very good." Taylor said after a recent gig with Kevin Max. "Because now, it''s not about the record deal or trying to get famous. Now it''s all about the songs and playing them live and being consistently excellent at what we do as a band. None of the other stuff is there to get in the way of a good thing."
